Let me start with a story.

The story of how I got “THE EYES” from my wife-to-be on our wedding day.

I was in my early twenties—and to be honest—I was still very much adapting to the responsibilities of life, and of being engaged.

We had a church wedding and had arranged for a Salvation Army brass band to accompany the songs. (Yes, it may well have felt super Christmassy, despite being the 27th July 2012 and the hottest day of that year!)

My one responsibility was to ensure that was all sorted. I thought I had smashed it.

Until the moment came and my pride of accomplishment was shattered.

It turns out that the particular choice of song had two different versions. Same lyrics. Different tune.

The tune I had confirmed with the band leader (who even sang it to me!) was not the tune that we – nor our guests – knew at all.

So the room was full of people attempting to sing along with a melody they’d never heard before.

My wife-to-be glared at me.

I smiled back and mouthed the words, “I love you.”

Thankfully, that turned the glare into a smile.

Not to mention we’d also booked our wedding for the same day as my sister’s 18th birthday. (Doh!)

And it clashed with the opening ceremony of the London Olympics…

Why share this? Because it shows how easy it is for little details to slip through the cracks—even with the best of intentions.

And that’s exactly why so many couples ask: Do I really need a wedding MC, or can we just do it ourselves?”

Yes, you can do it yourselves. But what it often means is this:

  • You (or a family member) spend the day worrying about timings instead of enjoying them.
  • Guests feel unsure of what’s happening or when.
  • Suppliers – photographer, caterer, band – aren’t fully coordinated
  • And sometimes, you get “THE EYES.”

A professional MC takes all of that pressure away.

  • They keep your day running smoothly and on time.
  • They handle transitions so nothing feels awkward or rushed.
  • They work with your suppliers so everyone’s on the same page on the day.
  • They bring warmth and energy so your guests feel included every step of the way.

The difference? You get to simply be present, knowing everything is under control.

Looking back, I wish we’d had someone guiding the flow of the day. Whilst my song choice mishap would have still happened – It would have spared us the stress of everything else.

So if you’re wondering whether you need a wedding MC, ask yourself this: Do you want to spend your wedding day managing the details. or making memories?

And when you combine a professional host with magical entertainment, your guests won’t just remember your wedding for how well it ran… they’ll remember how it made them feel.
